You always have a choice

You always have a choice

Over the Easter weekend, I did what a lot of us did and visited family. I had a great couple of days and set off for the 2 hour drive back home on Easter Sunday. Except it wasn't 2 hours, it turned into 3 due to a crash on the motorway. Thanks to the power of Google...

This Is Your Gentle Reminder….

This Is Your Gentle Reminder….

I asked myself the question, what if I don’t write a newsletter this week? And then it came to me, that this is exactly what I should write about this week - that it’s ok to take a break. It's also about showing up as authentically me - and this week, this is what...

“Wherever You Go, There You Are”

“Wherever You Go, There You Are”

If you’ve been with me for a while, you might have noticed I don’t tend to talk about specific work or life situations and that's intentional. Because wherever we find ourselves—at work, at home, in relationships—we take our whole selves with us everywhere, whether we...

Do You Have Enough Joy In Your Life?

Do You Have Enough Joy In Your Life?

...after a great Friday night out! On Friday, me & a friend went to a gig - we went to see CMAT at Alexandra Palace in London and it's something I haven't done for such a long time! We had a great night, and I loved being part of a 10,000 strong crowd with music,...

The Cost of Fitting In

The Cost of Fitting In

Brené Brown's The Gifts of Imperfection introduces the concept of “wholehearted living,” encouraging us to cultivate courage, compassion, and authenticity while releasing perfectionism, comparison, and the need for approval. The book shows that when we allow ourselves...

What’s The Link Between Journalling and The Wolf of Wall Street?

What’s The Link Between Journalling and The Wolf of Wall Street?

For those of you who've not seen it, The Wolf of Wall Street starred Leonardo DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort, directed by Scorsese. It tells the true story of Belfort's career as a New York stockbroker and how corruption and fraud led to his downfall. Right at the end of...

I Thought I Was Being Productive…

I Thought I Was Being Productive…

After returning from Bali, I was ill and it took a couple of weeks to get back to being 100%.  When February arrived, I tried to jump straight back into everything. Work, domestic admin, pilates, yoga, riding, coaching & mentoring, calls with the communities I'm a...

Building Resilience Before You Need It

Building Resilience Before You Need It

I’d sold my house, we’d moved livery yards and the plan was working - until it wasn't. On 6th January, my house sale fell through because someone in the chain withdrew. Completely out of my control — and yet it impacted me in a big way and suddenly I was back to...

New Beginnings

New Beginnings

What if January isn’t about pushing harder but about nurturing the seeds you’ve already planted? The start of a new year often comes with a lot of noise about goals, resolutions, and how to “make this your best year yet.” But what if, instead of rushing in, you...

Five Minutes That Will Change Your Day

Five Minutes That Will Change Your Day

It’s coming up to mid-December, mid-week, and I'm seeing more posts about people feeling frazzled, exhausted and ready for a break. That final push before we get some much-needed time off can feel tough, and 2025 has been challenging for a lot of us, myself included....

Confidence Grows at the Edges of Your Comfort Zone

Confidence Grows at the Edges of Your Comfort Zone

This year has been full of new beginnings — and plenty of wobbles along the way. I launched a new business, created a website (despite being one of the least techy people I know!), been a podcast guest, started new things with Jessie, my horse, and stepped into a...

Why Rest Isn’t A Waste Of Time

Why Rest Isn’t A Waste Of Time

What did I do this weekend? I took some time for me. Life's busy with my business, an impending house move, getting ready for Christmas and everything inbetween! I gave myself permission to slow down. I did the things I love to do - I spent time with my horse and my...

When Things Don’t Go According To Plan…..

When Things Don’t Go According To Plan…..

On Sunday morning I had a riding lesson - quiet yard, beautiful weather, I was looking forward to it after Storm Claudia had put paid to the original time. Jessie however had other ideas - We got in the school, and nothing - she put the brakes on and decided it was...

Podcast with Curious Equestrian

You get the horse you need, not necessarily the one you wanted.

Perhaps the most profound insight from Nicky’s journey is understanding how our own nervous system state affects our horses. When she was dealing with work stress, anxiety, and personal upheaval, Jessie reflected that chaos back to her. Only when Nicky began regulating her own nervous system through meditation, better sleep, and lifestyle changes did their relationship begin to transform. This isn’t just about being “calm” around horses, it’s about nervous system health.

Humans of Horses podcast

Such a great conversation! Loved recording this with my friend Elle MacMillan.

In this episode of the Humans of Horses podcast, positive psychology coach Nicky Sharp shares her transformative journey with her horse Jessie, reflecting on the process of stepping out of the traditional way of being with horses to where she is at now.
Their evolving relationship has been a mirror for Nicky’s personal growth, helping her navigate a toxic work environment and the path toward a more authentic life, sharing how her relationship with Jessie has translated into the workspace. Through learning new approaches to the horse-human relationship, Nicky highlights the deep emotional and energetic connection between humans and horses, emphasising the importance of trust, patience, and presence.
The conversation explores themes of energy dynamics, mindset, and the role of mindfulness in both coaching and daily life. Nicky and Elle share how personal development can shift relationships; and how empathy, gratitude and small, intentional changes can lead to greater fulfillment both with horses and in the world beyond.
Nicky sees horses as powerful teachers of patience, listening, and authenticity which are qualities that support both personal and relational well-being.
